An incredibly important piece. As a Black Brit these sitcoms were so special to so many of us as well Without them, we were completely invisible on screen - we had very few shows to represent our coming of age. Our TV channel to experience all of these iconic shows was Trouble TV. When they took Trouble TV off air in the late noughties, it was a dark, dark day!Long live Black sitcoms for real! ❤️

The way A Different World has been on my radar lately!!! A childhood favorite (as were the others mentioned) Amazing tv and so so impactful. We were fortunate to have so many great shows like this. They’ll always be legendary and on my yearly rerun list 🤎

For sure!!! I’ve been rerunning them on Netflix more often lately, letting them run in the background as I clean or cook. So soothing just to hear the dialogue as a backdrop. Thank you family 🖤

this is such an INCREDIBLY important piece. i yearn for more black representation in hollywood, & i yearn for more insightful well-written pieces like this that shed a light on oft-forgotten parts of american black history in media and beyond. thank u for writing this!
